My Road Trip

Contrary to what you may be reading - including info on the Hockey Canada site - Canada has NOT qualified for the Championship Game....... yet. To be sure, they’re standing in very good stead heading into today’s match against Mannheim, BUT, it’s not a done deal yet. In a nutshell, if Canada loses to Mannheim today and Ufa defeats HC Davos later tonight, there would be a three-way tie for first place.  Now, we get into tie break scenarios - first tie break is head-to-head; the three teams would all still be tied after that.  Next is goals for and against against one another..... and at this point I need to call in the boys from MIT to work it out.  if you are so inclined, here’s a link to the official tournament site and the tie break procedures.....

Bottom line is this:  A win today will seal the deal for Canada in terms of making it to the Championship Game tomorrow; anything less and it gets about as muddled as a U.S. Foreign Policy paper.

Tie breakers, heart breakers...
